"As mining progresses, it becomes increasingly likely that deposits will exhibit complex mineralogical compositions and lower grades. Therefore, understanding and incorporating mineralogical considerations are essential for mining enterprises."

How have Bizalab’s services evolved?

Throughout the mining industry, our involvement extends to various stages, particularly in exploration, where there is a demand for enriched information through our offered assays. Typically, this stage involves conducting geochemical analyses, assessing metal grades, and determining other essential parameters to validate and evaluate project viability. However, there has been a historical oversight in the comprehensive examination of mineralogical aspects and a lack of in-depth investigations into the ore zone. Therefore, several operational issues have come to light.

Mining practices have evolved to encompass a greater emphasis on mineralogical evaluations, extending beyond solely focusing on the valuable ore that generates operational value and expected cash flows. Understanding the composition of gangue, clays, and other non-metallic components accompanying the ore has become crucial. Although these materials lack intrinsic value, they constitute a significant portion of the plant's processed material. By understanding their composition and implementing appropriate processing methods, setbacks can be avoided. In the past, our clients only sought assistance when faced with problems and decreased recovery rates. However, in such cases, knowledge of ore grades alone is insufficient. Thus, gaining insights into other aspects of the material context assumes a more significant role in achieving successful outcomes.

Do you find it necessary to enlighten your clients about the advantages of mineralogy assays?

Mineralogy plays a pivotal role in geometallurgy, which aims to integrate various scientific disciplines and mining-related fields to identify critical challenges and their underlying causes throughout project development. While mineralogical assays may entail higher costs than grade assays, the investment is notable as it yields a substantial impact, particularly in enhanced recovery rates.

Companies must recognize that mineralogy remains concealed until it is actively applied, executed, or incorporated. As mining progresses, it becomes increasingly likely that deposits will exhibit complex mineralogical compositions and lower grades. Therefore, understanding and incorporating mineralogical considerations is essential for mining firms.

How do you envision Bizalab’s growth and expansion on an international scale?

In 2022, our primary focus was strengthening our services within Peru due to the substantial demand from mining companies seeking mineralogical control. Although we had plans for international expansion, our laboratory's capacity was already maximized, which restricted our growth projections. The utilization of microscopy scanning and X-ray mineralogical control occupied a significant portion of our capacity, and, despite the challenges, we successfully fulfilled all demands, particularly in Q42022. We invested strategically  in cutting-edge technology to cater to the high demand for our services: we acquired a high-resolution scanning electron microscope (SEM). This advanced instrument enhances processing speed and improves statistical accuracy by analyzing more particles, even at very fine sizes.

As we move into 2024, we aim to expand our presence into new international markets, leveraging the experience and knowledge we gained by exploring various deposits in Peru.

In what ways does Bizalab actively promote the development of its workers?

We actively offer training programs for professionals and students interested in mineralogical assays. Additionally, we are committed to positively impacting society by supporting young students in completing their thesis or research work. We provide them preferential rates and opportunities to obtain their degrees or professional titles.

Within Bizalab, we prioritize our staff's continuous acquisition of knowledge. This encompasses seeking external sources of information and fostering an internal ecosystem where knowledge is shared and mutually enriched. Information is vast in geology and metallurgy, and diverse perspectives play a vital role.

What sets Bizalab apart from other laboratories?

Our highly qualified human resources and cutting-edge equipment are fundamental pillars. These elements, combined with our quality management system, have enabled us to effectively respond to industry demands and challenges, earning the trust of our valued customers. Over time, we have forged a solution-based proposal rooted in our core values, granting us a privileged advantage and position in the market.

We take pride in being ISO 9001 certified, demonstrating our commitment to excellence and continuous improvement across all operations. Additionally, we are working towards obtaining the ISO 17025 accreditation, specifically designed for laboratories. This accreditation further validates our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of quality. We firmly believe that acquiring new infrastructure and technology alone is insufficient, and it is equally important to invest in developing and training our employees, who are our most valuable asset.
