2024 has been an eventful year for Africa’s energy sector with the launch of a new African Energy Bank in Brazzaville, Angola’s departure from OPEC, and the commissioning of the Dangote refinery in Nigeria, the seventh largest refinery in the world. This all comes amidst global geopolitical turmoil marked by a series of coups in West Africa, war in Ukraine and mounting political and economic pressure to move away from fossil fuels.
