"In Saudi Arabia, every discussion with operators prioritizes sustainability, decarbonization, and localization, presenting a unique opportunity to implement advanced technologies from the outset."
What is Cummins’ presence in Saudi Arabia?
Cummins Arabia operates as a joint venture between Cummins and the Olayan Group, managing distribution across Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait. We maintain three main branches across Saudi Arabia, including Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah, each fully equipped with workshops, spare parts, service technicians and service vans. We also have two small branch locations in Al-Qassim and Abha. Our Dammam-Khobar branch hosts an engine rebuild facility capable of overhauling & testing engines up to 3,500 horsepower, supporting localization and Saudi development goals.
What does Cummins offer to the mining sector?
In underground mining, we supply Heavy-Duty, MidRange, and Light-Duty Engines ranging from capacity of 2.8 to 15 liter engines for smaller equipment such as loaders, trucks and drills, while for surface and open-pit operations, we power larger equipment including haul trucks, wheel loaders, excavators, and drills with high-horsepower engines from our QSK19 to QSK78 models.
Cummins is also involved in providing continuous power to camps and mine sites, directly or via Energy Rental companies. Our engines power over 50 machines for various mining operators, supported by spare parts, maintenance and full-service solutions.
Beyond mining, what other growth vectors is Cummins focused on in Saudi Arabia?
Cummins is also prioritizing the rapidly growing data center sector, which is a significant driver of our power generation business. We supply emergency backup generators, a key revenue segment, to data centers globally. In the Middle East, growth is accelerating, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Saudi Arabia’s Humain initiative plans to build gigawatt-scale data center capacity, creating substantial demand for backup power solutions.
How can Cummins help mining operations to decarbonize?
Cummins has evolved from a traditional diesel engine manufacturer to a provider of decarbonized solutions across multiple technologies. We offer engines meeting a wide range of global emission standards, as well as engines capable of running on alternative fuels. Our portfolio also includes zero-carbon technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells, electrolyzers, and battery energy storage systems.
Specifically in mining, Cummins acquired First Mode in 2025, providing hybrid retrofit kits for large dump trucks, enabling lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency without extensive equipment modifications. Cummins is committed to delivering sustainable, decarbonized solutions to customers across sectors.
Are Saudi Arabian mining companies keen to adopt low-carbon technologies?
Cummins has observed strong momentum in Saudi Arabia to adopt decarbonization technologies across multiple sectors. In some of the new mega developments along the region, we are supporting customers with after-treatment solutions that reduce emissions from existing equipment.
Government mandates and Vision 2030 initiatives are driving the adoption of low-carbon, low-emission technologies, particularly in mining. For example, power plants operating on diesel generators are exploring microgrids combining solar, diesel, and battery energy storage to lower emissions and fuel consumption.
In Saudi Arabia, every discussion with operators prioritizes sustainability, decarbonization, and localization, presenting a unique opportunity to implement advanced technologies from the outset.
How does Cummins adapt its offer some of the unique challenges facing equipment providers in Saudi Arabia?
Cummins has over 70 years of experience in Saudi Arabia and expertise in operating in demanding environments globally. We customize our engines to withstand high ambient temperatures and dusty conditions, using larger or more efficient cooling systems and durable, high-performance materials to ensure reliability.
Maintenance is tailored to the unique needs of remote mining operations, with on-site technicians, spare parts availability, and trained customer personnel acting as first responders. Our rebuild centers provide complete overhauls for engines operating in harsh conditions. Cummins leverages this deep local knowledge to deliver solutions that maintain operational continuity and high performance across Saudi Arabia’s mining sector.
What are your priorities for 2026?
Cummins is strongly focused on increasing local content and advancing localization in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Over 40% of our workforce comprises Saudi nationals, and we invest in skill development through programs that recruit and train college graduates for technical and non-technical roles. We continuously evaluate our product portfolio to identify components that can be sourced or manufactured locally.
Positioning Cummins as a key partner in the mining sector remains a top strategic priority, alongside growing sectors such as data centers and energy. Localization, workforce development, and sector focus guide our ongoing commitment to the Kingdom’s economic and industrial objectives.
